Nate's Virus Removal List
 In this age of viruses, spyware, malware, rootkits and a host of other things that slow down our computers to a crawl it can seem overwhelming.    I take the confusion out of the whole deal and share my wealth of knowledge with you on how to deal with them.  Here is a list of scanners I use on client's computers.  One is never enough because no one can keep up with the amount of bugs being created daily.  Like all processes involved in optimizing windows, a step by step procedure is needed.  One click solutions do not exist.  You choose which is best for you.

  2. Hitman Pro 35
  3. Microsoft Security Essentials (Real time scanner without a lot of resources needed)
  4. Super-Anti Spyware
  5. TDS Killer
  6. Anti-Zero Access
  7. Rootkitbuster
  8. Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit
  9. Kaspersky Anti-Virus
  10. ESET On-line scanner
  11. Combo Fix (for experienced users only)
  12. Autoruns (for experienced users only)
  13. Process Explorer (for experienced users only)
  14. EmsisoftEmergencyKit
  15. RKill (to remove processes that hinder scanners from working)
  16. RogueKiller (similar to RKill but very intensive for really nasty bugs)
  17. Adwcleaner (removes adware from browsers)
  18. Avast Free (Use boot-time scanner)
Use your favorite search engine and search for any of these and download the file needed. Make sure you update each before you use them. Start with Malwarebytes and if your machine is heavily infected go down the list until you get a steady system clean message.
  • These scans can take at least 45 minutes and up to several hours depending on how many files you have on your computer.  Scan at least once a month or more often depending on where you go on the net and how often you use your machine.  Overnight is often best or when away from your machine for a time.  For a quicker and more in-depth scan do so in Safe Mode.

   Once your system is clean having Avast Free as your real-time scanner and Malwarebytes to back it up is enough for a basic home computer user.  Business and Professionals will want more.  Personally, I have upgraded to Avast Premium.   I scan my computers once a week as part of my regular maintenance package.  As you become more and more comfortable doing these things you will see the improvement in your system and come to see that regular "tune-ups" are needed for any Windows Computer Optimization.
